Trinidad’s National Pledge and Vision 2020 … are Universal
Thanks to my brother, Joel Krieger, Norma Wilentz Hess Professor and Chairman of the Political Science Department at Wellesley College who mentioned that he helped in the drafting of Vision 2020 for Trinidad and Tobago, for then Prime Minister Patrick Manning, with Selwyn Cudjoe, President of the National Association for the Empowerment of African People, the Margaret Deffenbaugh and LeRoy Carlson Professor in Comparative Literature and Chairman of Africana Studies at Wellesley.
Please see http://www.meetmanning.com/home/node/2 for the full Vision 2020 Statement with very pleasant background music
“By the year 2020, Trinidad and Tobago will be a united, resilient, productive, innovative and prosperous nation with a disciplined, caring, fun-loving society, comprising healthy, happy and well-educated people and built on the enduring attributes of self-reliance, respect, equity and integrity” …

“Let us always remember that those who have been placed in positions of religious or civil authority over us should treat those obligations carefully. The words of our National Pledge admonish:
“I solemnly pledge to dedicate my life
To the service of my God
And my country
I will honour my parents,
My teachers, my leaders and my elders,
And those in authority.
I will be clean and honest in all my
My words and my deeds.
I will strive in everything I do
To work together with my fellowmen
Of every creed and race
For the greater happiness of all
And the honour and glory of my Country.”
